What?
Following on from the original Key Indicators Graph project, we have continued its development to include a larger range of indicators, some simple animations and a dynamic data feed.
Why?
We want to make it fast and easy for our customers to find these key figures directly from the homepage. Additionally it would be easy to obtain source data for re-use.
When?
We are planning to release this graph shortly.

The data seems to be labelled on some of the data but not on others. For example, looking at the Retail Trade graph in particular, it is a quarterly percentage change estimate but does not indicate whether it chain volume measure or current price value or if it is original, seasonally adjusted or trend estimate. In some of the graphs, the series are labelled with a bit of detail but still need the full description to meet ABS standards. You don't want someone misquoting ABS data.
Is there suppose to be any significance in the choice of colour?
The room occupancy graph is very hard to read as the hover boxes for the two lines overlap each other.

At first I was concerned that the Key Indicators were not described. Then I noticed on your picture a box that did this. So I opened up the prototype again and hovered over the graph to bring up the descriptions. This did not occur to me before. The population figures do not have a reference period in the description.

how will this work exactly. Is it dynamic data feed? what happens when there are errors in data? what tests have been done to ensure publish times not affected? timings?

Love it.
Agree with Todd's and Kim's comments.
Well done.

These graphs are great!
However, many of them display more than one series, without explaining what the difference is (unless I missed it).
#6: Marcus
Useful to add a link to the underlying data.
Roll overs that display the individual values at point on the line are useful to allow users better interpret the graph
The animation works well in highlight the change over time and "sells" the statistics
Agree with comments on the cramped nature of the graph...nice to have this on the front page...but need access to a bigger version...or indeed be brave and put it centre stage

Graphs look good and could be useful for us in EdServces. Would itbe possible to select 2 variables to run at once so we could see if, for example, there was a similarity between CPI and retail sales.

Looks great but the right hand column doesn't provide much space to work with and the charts look cramped. Why not reorganise the homepage so this can take centre stage?
It would also be good if the charts rotated automatically every 5secs and there were links within each chart to take you to the latest edition of the source publication.

The graph is a great idea. You may need to add a small line indicating that it has mouse over functionality.

WOW I could play with this all day! It is great

This is fabulous. I love it.
The only things that could be improved is
- the way that the hover-over boxes overlay each other when the distributions lie very close to each other on the graph
- the addition of further hover-over metadata to identify the source of the data and to direct users to more information. Maybe that is already there but if so it didn't jump out at me.
