What?
The ABS is looking at placing an interactive widget on the ABS Homepage. The widget is powered by jQuery and allows users to easily access:
- Media Releases;
- an Inflation Calculator;
- a simple Map Stat;
- graphs of the Key Indicators;
- a link to CDATA Online; and
- a Tag Cloud of Search Terms used on the ABS Website.
Why?
We want to make better use of the ABS Homepage real estate and make it fast and easy for our customers to find key information and ABS products.
When?
The release of this toolbox is dependent on public interest and we encourage you to give us your feedback!

Hi,
I like the concept, however feel the buttons would be more effective if much smaller. There's no visible 'back' mechanism from the sub pages - and IMHO all six buttons should remain visible in all the pages in some manner for consistency and easy navigation (so not 1 -> 2 -> 1 -> 3 -> 1 -> 4 but 1 -> 2 -> 3 ->4).

As an avid two-pointer, I can tell you that you are on the right track. It's hard to tell for some links as they are not active, but I think the dashboard idea is a lot more intuitive. I hope that you will be going down the mash-up road, and have a scratch-pad account where people can cobble together various data visualisations, post them and have people comment, vote on and mash them once again. Have you seen what Google have been doing with their fusion table concept?

I for one appreciate the effort.
