Time Series Directory
21 May 2009 15:00:00
What?
Time series metadata will be loaded to the ABS web site independently of Excel spreadsheets. A formula for constructing URLs used to access this metadata directly will be exposed, returning metadata in XML format. For less technical users, a graphical user interface will be released that allows users to browse subjects, products and tables in order to locate specific time series. Tables can be selected and a custom download list can be created.
Why?
Time series users have expressed the need for a single access point for time series metadata on the ABS Website, negating the need for users to click through 'many' product pages. Time series users also have a need to download multiple files, perhaps all available files for a given release as quickly and as easily as possible and a need to have 'time series metadata' readily available without having to download and extract it from spreadsheets.
When?
Released 26 June 2009: URL access to time series metadata, returning metadata in XML format.
TBA: For less technical users, a graphical user interface is planned, that will allow users to browse subjects, products and tables in order to locate specific time series.

Thanks for your feedback. Search and discoverability of time series has been highlighted as one of our long term goals, however the prototype time series directory released in June 2009 will not provide this functionality. We hope to provide search and discoverability of time series in a subsequent release.

Is there any search function for searching specific series by code? For example, if I want to know the directory of A2551611T, can I use the search function? The old version can only search by series description.

Tina
